The Evolution of Masculinity? What makes a man, a â€Å"man†? Is it how much money he makes? The car he drives? The life he lives? Or, the amount of â€Å"Masculinity† that he shows? These are some of the stereotypical question that becomes the ideas of what men should have or strive to achieve. In Post-Princess Models of Gender: The New Man in Disney/Pixar by Ken Gillam and Shannon R. Wooden, they bring forth the ideas/thought of what the characteristic of men should be, by the overly influential control Disney and Pixar have on us and our future generation. Similar to what Matthew Immergut, in his article Manscaping: The Tangle of Nature, Culture and the Male Body, they both share ideas on the thought of man. The argument addressed in the question is either the way we view masculinity should be changed or not to determine us as men. In which the answer is, yes it should. Male or man, is a gender identity which show/ categorize, us separate from our female counterpart, Female or woman. But then are criticized on their place a â€Å"males† by getting in situation the emasculate them. Just because men independent or allowing for help, either overly sensitive or possess a lack of emotion, or whether or not â€Å"he† shaves his body or not should deter what the worlds thought on his masculinity First thought is how a man is â€Å"supposed to be† an independent/a leader. Intimate Partner Violence And Domestic Violence - 1300 Words

Introduction. Intimate partner violence (IPV) which falls into the category of domestic violence is an epidemic among individuals in every community affecting twelve million men and women each year. IPV has no discrimination when it comes to characteristics of the victims. Although victims of IPV are predominately female, men are just as capable of becoming victims as well. The term intimate partner violence describes physical, sexual, or psychological harm by a current or former partner (CDC, 2015). Such violence does not always require sexual intimacy and can occur among same-sex or heterosexual couples. Some risk factors for IPV victimization include: previous childhood victimization, low self-esteem, young age, low income, and heavy drug and alcohol use. IPV along with any other domestic violence related incidence, can cause a series of health problems in the victim’s lifetime. Depending on how long the violence occurs, it can higher the risk for heart disease, chronic pain, arthritis, and asthma. Along with those risks, come mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. The devastating consequences of IPV can cross generations and last a lifetime (What is Domestic Violence?, 2015). Although these health issues are more long-term effects, some of them are curable. This epidemic is nothing new to society, it spans history and cultures.
